The Peacemaker/Mediator

Core Need/Motivation
Type Nines have a need to be comfortable, harmonious, and connected.

Characteristics
Type Nines are agreeable, accepting, trusting, and self-forgetting.

Description

Type Nines strive for internal and external peace. They are tuned in to harmony and balance, and they create that feeling in their surroundings. Their attention to mutual regard means they respect others' thoughts and want others to respect them as well. It isn’t important to them that everyone shares the same interests, thoughts, feelings, or beliefs. They don’t seek agreement but rather mutual understanding, respect, and alignment around action. They can see all sides to an argument, and thus make excellent mediators. They are steady in their work and lives.

Type Nines tend to avoid anything that could create disruption in their environment. They will likely refrain from sharing their thoughts, desires, or feelings if they believe it could cause a break in the connection they enjoy with others.

Because Type Nines are accepting, others feel comfortable opening up to them. They often forget their own agenda, tuning in to the agendas of others and going along to get along. However, when pushed too far, Type Nines can become stubborn.

Primary Center:  Body/Instinctual

Type Nines are body types, but paradoxically, can be out of touch with their body/instinctual center. Because they prefer to blend in with others, they can struggle with their own sense of identity. One of the practices for Type Nines is to seek to know themselves and become more acquainted with and connected to their own bodies, thoughts, desires, and plans.

The Gifts of Type Nines

Type Nines are easy to work with. They genuinely have few needs and often seem glad to do whatever is required. They create comfortable and stable environments. People tend to see them as caring and non-judgmental, and therefore trustworthy. Type Nines can cultivate peace in what seems like unresolvable conflict. They are good at making space for others.

The Challenges of Type Nines

Because Type Nines so easily go along with the plans of others, they can have trouble setting priorities and making decisions and they sometimes get stuck in inertia. Other people might see Type Nines as being indecisive and ambivalent, not being able to speak their truth. When pushed too far, they can become stubborn.

Communication with Type Nines

Type Nines’ conversational style is easy, friendly, and non-confrontational.

When interacting with Type Nines, remember to go slow and easy. Give them time to take information in and process it; do not expect quick answers. If pressed too much, they will likely give responses that are agreeable and not necessarily share their own preferences or thoughts.
